Schedule and packet pickup

Packet pickup

Early pickup is Friday, March 5, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Hello Monty, 306 W Main. On race morning, 50K runners pick up from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m. and 10 milers from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. at the soccer pavilion at the start and finish.

Course

The 50K course

The 50K covers about 31 miles on sandstone trail with six aid stations, including Edwards Point, Mushroom Rock, Indian Rock House, Snoopers Rock and Mullens Cove. The site lists about 7,100 ft of gain on its course summary.

Parking and travel

Getting there and camping

The start is about a 20 minute drive from downtown Chattanooga. Tent camping on the soccer fields costs $10 a night on Friday or Saturday, with RVs allowed but no hookups or showers. Email the organizer to reserve.

Shirt and medal

What runners get

Every runner gets a shirt, a meal after the race and beer from Dynamo Brewing. Shoe brands bring demo pairs to the start area.

Rules and FAQ

Cutoffs and gear

The 50K has a 10 hour limit (5:30 p.m. finish), with interim cutoffs at Indian Rock House (4 hours) and Mullens Cove (7 hours). The race is cupless, so bring a cup and a pack or bottle. Poles are allowed; crews and drop bags are not.

Part of the proceeds go to Signal Mountain Athletics and Chattanooga Cave and Cliff Rescue. Camping fees go to Signal Mountain School.

About the race

A long running trail race on Signal Mountain and Walden Ridge above the Tennessee River Gorge, now in its 25th running under Bad Beard Events. About 90% of the route is single track, with a 50K and a 10 miler starting and finishing at the Signal Mountain soccer fields.
