How fast is it?

Faster than most California trail 8Ks

The fastest quarter of the 2026 8K field finished under 51:11, against 54:20 in a typical California trail 8K, so times here run 6 percent faster.

  • 10 Mile: About average for US trail 10-mile races. The fastest quarter of the 2026 10-mile race field finished under 1:39:39, against 1:39:05 in a typical US trail 10-mile race, so times here are about average.

Compares the fastest quarter of each field, so walkers and first-timers do not skew it. It reflects the course and the field together: a flat course, cool weather, or a competitive crowd all make times faster.

Typical race-day weather

Around February 28 the day usually runs from 43°F at dawn to 58°F in the afternoon, with measurable rain on about 22% of days. Cold snaps dip to 37°F and hot years reach 69°F.
