What a typical finish looks like

A typical finisher at a marathon in Utah runs 4:25:00, about 10:06 a mile, based on 10 races with published results. Women typically finish in 4:38:07 and men in 4:18:30.

Light and altitude

Sunrise on race morning is at about 7:30 AM, and the Fun Run (1 mile and 200 meters) starts at 5:00 PM. The start sits about 2,900 feet above sea level.

Fees exclude processing fees. Comparisons use current entry fees and published results from races nearby.

Schedule and packet pickup

Expo and packet pickup

Bibs and packets are handed out at the expo in the Dixie Convention Center, 1835 S Convention Center Dr, on Friday, October 2, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. A friend may collect your packet if they show a copy of your photo ID. The expo also has a solutions desk for registration fixes.

Course

Boston qualifying

Because the course is net downhill, the B.A.A. adds five minutes to St. George finishing times when reviewing Boston applications, so a runner with a 3:30 standard needs about 3:25 here. Pacers cover marathon goals from 3:00 to 4:30 and half goals from 1:30 to 2:20.

Parking and travel

Race morning buses

Runners ride buses to the start between 3:45 and 5:15 a.m., only at their assigned time. Marathon buses load at Vernon Worthen Park (250 S 400 E) and half marathon buses at Sandtown Park (600 N Bluff). Drop bags must be in the trucks at the start by 6:50 a.m. and can be collected at the finish until 2 p.m.

Awards

Prizes and medals

The marathon pays a $100,000 prize purse across the top ten men and women, and age group winners (first to third) get plaques. Runners who finish the Friday 5K and a Saturday race earn an extra Desert Double medal. Finishers get a medal, drinks and snacks in Vernon Worthen Park.

Rules and FAQ

Cutoff and time limit

Marathoners must pass Snow Canyon Parkway and S.R. 18 (mile 23.1) by 1:15 p.m., about a 16:13 per mile pace, or they are taken to the finish. The finish closes at 2:15 p.m., a 6 hour 15 minute limit. The race follows USATF rules; strollers and unregistered pacers are not allowed.

Rules and FAQ

Transfers and deferrals

Entries are not refundable. Transfers to another runner go through Haku and must be finished by September 15; deferrals to next year run until October 2. Each costs $25 before September 1 and $50 after. Selling a bib outside this process bans both runners for at least two years.
