Most spots go by lottery: entry is free from Dec. 1 to 15, 2026, and a card is charged only if you are drawn; results come out in early January 2027. Other routes in are qualifier coins at series races, camp or coaching packages, charity slots and Life Time member spots.

Schedule and packet pickup
The 2027 schedule is not posted yet. In 2026 runners picked up packets in person with photo ID on Friday at 135 E 6th St, after a mandatory athlete meeting, and the race started at 4:00 a.m. Saturday at 6th St and Harrison Ave. Awards were at noon Sunday at Lake County High School.
Course
The 2027 route is not out yet. The classic course runs past Turquoise Lake and over Hope Pass to the Winfield turnaround, then back, with more than 15,000 ft of climbing. A 2026 reroute around Willow Fire damage measured 99.7 miles and 13,357 ft of gain, with twelve aid stations.
Parking and travel
Crews may meet runners only at three designated locations, each reached twice. Twin Lakes Village is reachable only by shuttle, and crews need color coded wristbands for some areas. Crewing elsewhere can get a runner disqualified.
Rules and FAQ
Runners must be 18 or older on race day. The official cutoff is 30 hours, which earns the small buckle; finishing under 25 hours earns the large buckle. Intermediate cutoffs apply at aid stations along the way.

One of the oldest 100 mile trail races in the country, first held in 1983. The out and back course starts and ends in Leadville at about 10,200 feet and crosses Hope Pass, near 12,500 feet, on the way out to Winfield and again on the way back.
