Race day timing

An early start goes at 7 a.m. and the main start at 8 a.m. from Fairhaven Park. The course closes at 4 p.m., an 8 hour limit for the main start. A kids race for ages 12 and under runs half mile loops in the park from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

The course

The 31.1 mile loop has five aid stations: Lost Lake parking lot, Two Dollar Trailhead on Cleator Road, the Ridge Trail entrance near the top of Cleator Road, the base of Chinscraper, and the junction of Fragrance Lake Trail and the Interurban. Start and finish are both at Fairhaven Park.

Awards and prize money

Finishers get a race prize, which changes each year. Female, male and nonbinary categories share equal cash prizes (a $4,000 purse in 2026), plus masters awards and a course record bonus. Age group awards go to the top three in each 10 year group for runners who start at 8 a.m.

Cold weather gear

In 2026 the race required a waterproof jacket or poncho, gloves and a hat through aid station 5 when the start temperature was 47 F or colder, with spot checks at the start and at aid station 3. Crews were allowed only at aid stations 1 and 5.

Who it supports

The race benefits Runners for Public Lands, Girls on the Run of Whatcom County, the Washington Trails Association and The Conservation Alliance. Part of each kids race entry goes to Girls on the Run.

About the race

A long running mountain ultra in Bellingham, first held in 1993. The lollipop course starts and ends at Fairhaven Park with about 10K each way on the flat Interurban Trail, while the middle 30K climbs roughly 5,000 ft over the Chuckanut Mountain ridge on technical trail.
